School groups

Geelong Sports Museum promises to educate, surprise and entertain students as they explore the unique relationship between sport and the Geelong region.  Teachers will find stories that align with learning areas and capabilities in the Victorian school curriculum.

A morning or afternoon excursion will give students time to explore the museum’s unique stories, and experience the many interactive spaces, including the wall of sailing knots, commentator’s booth, quiz wall, and more. Lunch can then be enjoyed in the Djilang Plaza.

The Museum requires one teacher with duty of care for every ten students. These teachers retain duty of care and are responsible for the behaviour of the students throughout the visit.

The Museum has capacity to host 2 classes at one time, approximately 50 students.

Prepare for the experience

Geelong Sports Museum was designed to be a self-guided visiting experience, allowing you to explore and interact with different features along the way. For the full experience, we recommend allowing 90 minutes – where groups will be able to take 60 minutes to explore the museum and 30 minutes for lunch or a break in the Djilang Plaza.

We recommend that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your booking. Our staff will be ready to help you organise your group upon arrival. Coaches and minibuses can offload students at the designated zone at Legends Plaza, near the Cats Shop/Gate 14.

Resources

The following resources are designed to support students to make the most of their museum visit through suggested pre and post-visit lesson plans, learning trails, and activity sheets completed at the museum. Lesson plans are suitable for years 3-8, with suggested adaptations included in the descriptions. Curriculum links are outlined and can be met through a combination of these activities.
